Welcome!

Around Chesham by Lalage Smyth, member of the Photography and Digital Imaging Groups
Welcome to the website of Chess Valley u3a
Operating in and around Chesham in Buckinghamshire, we offer a wide range of activities for those in their ‘third age’, when they are no longer working full time and are able to pursue other interests.
Our members take part in activities ranging from Art to Wildlife, with books, dinghy sailing, French, history and a lot more in between.
Our monthly talk on Thursday 10th April features Dr David Jones with From Primordial Suits to Primates in Suits: The Evolution of Life on Earth. David works at the Natural History Museum in London, and lectures at Imperial College. He is an entomologist specialising in rainforest insects and soil ecology. He has done fieldwork in 18 countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Gabon, Madagascar and French Guiana. He has published more than 50 research articles in scientific books and journals. Life evolved more than 3.5 billion years ago, and today humans share the planet with around 12 million other species. David has set himself the difficult challenge of telling the story of the evolution of all life on earth in 1 hour. Can he explain the origins of life in the oceans, the evolution of millions of species, the extinction of millions more, and the rise to dominance of Homo sapiens, in just 60 minutes? Come along and find out!
Please note that this is a change from the planned speaker and topic.
The venue for this meeting is the Broadway Baptist Church in Chesham Broadway, which is wheelchair-accessible and equipped with a hearing loop. The talk starts at 2pm.
If you are not currently a member of Chess Valley u3a and would like to sample a monthly talk and learn more about us, please come along and you will receive a warm welcome.
Best wishes
James
