We will first visit the Military Intelligence Museum in Chicksands, Bedford-about an hours drive from Chesham

This is the only museum of it's kind in UK and one of only 4 worldwide (others in US, Finland and Israel)

This museum is located in the working Intelligence Corps depot and as such is an active services site, all visitors will require registering and you will need to bring a photo ID with you, either a driving licence, bus pass or passport.

The actual museum is a charity, run by volunteers and is a real treasure trove of fascinating objects dealing with intelligence from the Boer war up to modern time.

It is not large in area but enormous in the range and presentation of objects

On arrival we will be given coffee/tea/biscuits and split into 2 groups for a guided tour, this should last around an hour and there will be time for closer inspection before the coach departs around 12.45.

 

 

A buffet lunch (sandwich platter, crisps, salad, tray bakes ,juice) will be served in an area reserved for us on arrival and is included in the price.

 

The collection is located on an airfield, adjacent to a Victorian House where the Shuttleworth family resided from the 1850s till the whole area was donated by them to a trust in 1953,this includes the collection built up by the family over the years

 

We will be free to explore the 5 hangers which contain a large collection of old aircraft, cars buses etc

Also included is a visit to the Swiss Garden which was established in the early part of the last century-this is a wonderful peaceful and quiet area with a walkway round including benches and interesting trees, plants ,sculptures and 2 newly ensconced peacocks

The visits are  not guided

 

Costs: the total cost including visits, coach, driver tip ,tea/coffee, buffet lunch will be £55,should you not wish to participate in the group lunch, you may deduct £10 per person

The coach will leave from Chesham Football Club at 08:45,with a brief stop outside the Amersham Leisure centre a few minutes later,the return will depart from Shuttleworth at around  4:30
